Balance Body and Energy
For horses, livestock, and small animals
Acupuncture (AP) is a form of therapy used in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and has been around for over 2000 years. It involves the placement of needles into specific points on the body where nerve endings, mast cells, blood vessels, and lymph vessels are present. There are hundreds of points that lie along channels/meridians all over the body. When the points are needled it helps to move Qi(chi)/energy through the body to treat many conditions and improve quality of life.
How it works:
AP works by releasing beta-endorphins, serotonin, and other neurotransmitters to aid with pain and healing. AP can be done as a sole therapy or in conjunction with Western medicine.
Conditions it can help with include:
arthritis, IVDD, neurologic disorders, chronic pain conditions, gastrointestinal disease, metabolic disease, incontinence, allergies, reproductive issues, and behavior.
This is also a great modality to use in younger patients and athletes to help maintain strength and balance in their body.
Types of Acupuncture:
Dry Needle: needle is inserted directly into point
Aqua-acupuncture: involves injecting a substance, most commonly vitamin B12, into acupuncture points. This is great for longer stimulation of the point and for those patients who don’t tolerate needles being placed for long periods of time.
Electro-acupuncture: electrodes are attached to the needle for stimulation. This is great for neurologic disorders and pain.
Laser acupuncture: good alternative to needle placement. Can use cold therapy laser to stimulate points for patients that don't tolerate needles.
Hemo-acupuncture: bleeding certain acupuncture points to release heat and pain
Moxibustion: Herbal substance which burned over the needles or acupunture points to create heat when there is a cold pattern present.
Pneumo-acupuncture: injecting air into regions under skin particularly in muscle atrophy cases
Acupressure: apply pressure with finger or hands over points
What conditions can be treated:
Laser Therapy (photobiomodulation) aids with healing, inflammation, and pain. The light is absorbed and generates biomolecules to initiate the repair of tissues and reduction of pain. The elements stimulated also lead to vasodilation (increased blood flow) and inhibit inflammatory mediators. Laser therapy can provide antimicrobial properties as well.
Currently, we use a Low Level Laser (MR5 ACTIVet Pro) which provides synchronous Super Pulsed Laser with ultra-bright infrared, red and blue LEDs.
Conditions treated: Pain, arthritis, wounds, quarter cracks, ligament injuries
